The Cuban musical ensemble, otherwise known as Buena Vista Social Club, hit the scene by storm in the late 1990s with their self-titled debut album and documentary movie. Formed by the British producer Nick Gold and American guitarist Ry Cooder, the collective effectively relaunched the careers of Cuban icons, including the likes of Ibrahim Ferrer and Rubén González. The Buena Vista Social Club introduced them and a number of other renowned local players to a widespread worldwide audience. The record's success not only led to a revival in Cuban music, but also of Latin music as a whole which stretched into the 21st century. Not long after, the collective’s touring group was dubbed Buena Vista Social Orchestra and continued to shine the project's music and spirit over decades and across continents.
Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos is a Cuban composer, arranger and trombonist of The Buena Vista Social Club. Alongside the Buena Vista Orchestra, he has continued the legacy of this legendary musical and cultural movement into 2024 with an exciting new stage production and body of work pulled from Aguaje's greatest songs, traditional music, as well as deep-dive cuts. Key players from the vibrant history of Cuban and Afro-Cuban music are set to join him on stage for a celebration that delivers everything from Guajira, Son, Danzon, Son Montuno, Pilon, Cha Cha Cha, Changui and Bolero to Guaracha, Ritmo Batanga, Afro, and Latin Jazz - just to name a few!
Over the years, the ensemble has racked up thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify with their debut album via SSK Entertainment, Greatest Recorded Performances. 2024 is a huge year for Buena Vista Social Orchestra. The all star ensemble is hitting the road with veteran musicians like "Betun" Luis Mariano. The announcement comes alongside the new collaborative extended play, Lofi Jazz Brasileiro.
