Once a hidden gem in the entertainment biz, the Taiwanese-American actor has dominated global seas after his writing credits for ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" and making at appearance on HBO's "2 Dope Queens". However, what really got him out there is his latest Netflix release - his special "Sweet and Juicy". Shaking up the scene with his observational humor on juicing, snoring, and going through an existential crisis in a Costco, Sheng Wang is one of today's hottest comics on the rise.
Honing his craft for over two decades now, the man has come a long way since his intimate gigs around San Francisco and New York. Performing in front of thousands of people today, he's taken it all 'sweet and juicy'. "From grandmas to porn stars," as described, everyone's hooked on his sharp wit.
Laid-back and refreshing, his style of comedy rests in finding amusement in the mundane. Perfectly serving up introspection and all-out hilarity, his two-decade expertise definitely shines. Fans all over the internet agree that his writing and premises are "damn good."
Directed by his fellow comedian and mentor, Ali Wong, Sheng Wang's comedy is the real deal. After twenty years in the underground, he's shared that he's always been his most "boring self." As his jokes speak for themselves, it ain't about how he looks or what he has, it's all about the way he's able to connect with all of you.
"That’s the mindset that I had, was to just go on stage and let the jokes speak for themselves and not have things that people can think about or judge me on," he told The Daily Beast.
Born in Taiwan, Sheng Wang's deep dive into comedy began during his time at UC Berkeley. Making a name for himself through his appearances on HBO's 2 Dope Queens, NBC's Last Comic Standing, and writing for ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, he's taken his unique perspectives on the relatable mundane - finding joy and hilarity in between.
With the help of his mentor and friend, Ali Wong, the man was able to take his craft to greater heights. Calling Wong as "one of my best friends and one of my favorite comedians in the entire world," she's truly an inspiration for the rising comic.
"I’ve slowly been following in her footsteps in a really weird way," he shared with The Daily Beast. "Not just careerwise: I got her old furniture. She’s upgrading slowly. So I’m slowly upgrading to what she just had."
