Two-time Grammy-nominated hip-hop duo Black Violin is back on tour! Announcing the "Full Circle Tour" slated for 2025, Kev Marcus and Wil B are prepping up their strings for a night of pizzicato hip-hop beats into classical melodies. Playing the viola and the violin, they've caught the public eye for their unique covers of hip-hop tracks, becoming popular among local clubs. After sending a tape to Showtime at the Apollo, the duo just kept on winning!
Since then, they've worked with a star-studded roster of artists including Alessia Cara, Lil Wayne, Wu-Tang Clan, Mike Shinoda, 2 Chainz, and more. By 2015, they released their acclaimed record "Stereotypes".
Marking 20 years of classical twists to hip-hop modernity, Kev Marcus and Will B have been on the strings since for over two decades now, straight out of their high-school orchestra classes. "The stereotypes are always there, embedded so deep in our culture,” Will said. "Just by nature of our existence we challenge those ideas. It’s a unique thing that brings people together who usually aren’t in the same room; and in the current climate, it’s good to bring people together,"
Described as a "classical boom", these men took a leap of faith to defy the norm - beautifully weaving classical notes to the eccentric beats of today. Challenging stereotypes and notions among people around them, they pursued they passions and proved that their talent and skill go beyond classical training. Converging worlds, they truly are one-of-a-kind.
Last year, the duo scored a Grammy nomination for their collaborative track "The Message" with Blind Boys of Alabama. Taking their strings to new heights with elements of blues and gospel in the mix, it's always endless possibilities with these two. Genre-bending with something that you'd call a hymn-like sound, they never fail to take listeners by surprise.
Beyond what you hear, Black Violin's edge comes in the form for feeling every single note. "It's not just musical, it's about the message of, 'Man I've never seen anything like this before," Marcus shared via CBS News. "And we challenge the audience, adults, kids, everybody. If this is something that you've never seen before, what do you love, that you can do in a way that no one has ever seen?"
